Johann Baptist von Spix (1781-1826).

Avium species novae, quas in itinere per Brasiliam annis MDCCCXVII-MDCCCXX . Monachii: Typis Franc. Seraph. Hübschmanni, 1824.

Spix, a German naturalist, traveled to Brazil in 1817 where he spent three years collecting specimens of the local flora and fauna with Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius. Spix chronicled his expedition in a 4-volume work, and published texts on fish, monkeys and bats, turtles and frogs, and snakes.
